Abstract: Interested in a career in teaching?  Find out what to do now, what to do next and what opportunities the JET Programme offers to aspiring teaching professionals.

The Japan Association of Language Teaching (JALT), a non-profit organisation dedicated to the improvement of language teaching and learning both within Japan and internationally.  JALT has nearly 3,000 members, with 35 chapters and 26 special interest groups.

The JET Programme (JET) is a large-scale exchange programme administered by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIR), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and the Council of Local Authorities for International Relations (CLAIR) in Japan.  The JET Programme aims to promote internationalisation in Japan’s local communities by improving foreign language education and developing international exchange at the community level.
